Aug 1, 2015 Mike, In April at the AZGOP Executive Committee meeting, we heard briefly about Arizonans for Responsible Drug Policy. We would like to discuss the proposed legalization of marijuana in our next legislative district meeting. Would you be available to address our precinct committeemen (PCs) and guests at our upcoming district meeting, on Tuesday, 11 August 2015? We meet in the Mesa Utilities Building at 640 North Mesa Drive, Mesa, AZ at 7:00 pm. Since there are no less than six proposed constitutional amendments or citizen initiatives dealing with marijuana, hemp, or drugs in general that may be upon the ballot for the 2016 general election should each obtain the necessary signatures, we are inviting authors for each to be available to answer questions about their particular amendment or initiative. Instead of focusing on one particular piece of proposed legislation over another and since we do not plan on taking the next six months to go over each proposed piece of legislation individually, we are inviting a speaker that is a proponent of legalizing marijuana, but is not tied to any particular piece of legislation. That person would speak for 10 minutes. We will then have a 20 minutes for questions and answers that our PCs and guests can address to speaker or authors of particular amendments or initiatives that may be on next year's ballot. The timing of the speaker and question and answer period would be between 7:15 pm and 7:45 pm on Tuesday, August 11. For your information, we had an opponent to such legislation come and speak to us at our district meeting last month. Basically, we want our PCs to be informed on both sides of the issue so that they understand the issues better and can help their constituents also know the issues. Our legislative district is rather diverse and we will have advocates for both sides at our meeting. Would you or your representative be available to attend and answer questions on your particular petition? Also, if you have any handouts that you would like to disseminate, you may bring them to the meeting or send them to me via email and I will distribute them to our PCs. One last component, we do have a "We The People" segment of our meeting where any guest may speak for 3 minutes on any subject towards the end of our meeting. The sign-up opportunity is on a first-come, first-served basis. This would be another opportunity where you could address the PCs about your particular piece of legislation or bring up anything that may have not been asked or brought up earlier in the meeting. Will you be available on Tuesday, 11 August 2015, to speak to our district in a question and answer period? If you are not available on that date, you are invited to attend any of our upcoming meetings and sign up to speak during the "We The People" segment. We meet the second Tuesday of each month in the same location.
Sincerely, |
